Discovering new Community Management Packs

Searching for a SCOM Management Pack? The Discover Management Packs pane provides an easy to use interface for navigating through all Management Packs contained within the CMPC. Three methods are available for filtering and searching through management packs to find the pack you need.

• Tag Filtering

  Tags help to identify multiple packs with shared functionality easily. In the screenshot above you can see the selected 'cloud' tag has been highlighted blue, filtering the view to only those packs with that tag. Clicking an additional tag further filters the search, the second click on a highlighted tag removes it from the search.

• String Searching

  Nothing fancy here, it is as simple as it sounds. In the upper right, a simple text box allows you to search for partial string matches in the management packs.

• Search by Author

  Have a favorite author, on whose previous packs have been perfect for your environment? Clicking on the name of an author in the management pack row returns all packs from that author.

Managing Installed Management Packs

The Installed Packs view quickly answers the question "Are my community management packs up-to-date?" Using a similar format to the standard Management Packs pane in SCOM, only packs from the CMPC are displayed.

Once you have navigated to the Installed Packs view you will see a display similar to the above image. This view only includes packs contained within the MP Catalog's content and which are currently installed in your SCOM Management Group. Included in the view are six pieces of information about the installed MP.

• Name

  The display name of the Management Pack

• Available Version

  This value represents the version of the pack that is available from the catalog

• Installed Version

  In the same format as the available version, this value represents the MP currently in your management group.

• Status

  A quickly readable, and sortable, column that indicates if the most recent version is installed in your environment.

• Author

  The author who wrote the MP.

• URL

  The location a new, or current version, of the MP, is located online. Right-clicking on a row allows you to launch a new browser window and navigate to the page.

Enabling and Disabling Alerts

While not complex or exciting, the settings page is used to enable or disable the alerting of new management packs quickly. When the alerting is enabled, the ability to run the monitor on-demand is available via a second button.
