Machine Creation Services Status

Citrix.XenDesktop.Zone.Satellite.MachineCreationServicesStatus.Monitor (UnitMonitor)

Monitors operational state of Machine Creation service on all controllers in satellite zone.

Knowledge Base article:

Summary

Citrix Machine Creation service creates new virtual machines. It is also used during normal operation in some cases whenever a suitable MCS-provisioned VDA machine is started/restarted in order to clean up its disks etc. Consequently a lack of this service could stop some machines from being started up.

If Machine Creation service is not operational on all controllers in satellite zone, above mentioned functionality may not be available in XenDesktop. But as long as there is operational Machine Creation service on at least one controller or failover to primary zone is working, functionality is not broken.

In case Machine Creation service is not operational on one or all controllers in satellite zone, alert (Warning) is generated.

Impact if Machine Creation service is not operational on all controllers:

Configuration

The following configuration parameters are customizable:

IntervalSeconds

The monitoring period for checking health state of Machine Creation service on all controllers (the default interval is set to 5 minutes).

Resolutions

Check alerts related to non operational Machine Creation service on specific controllers. First thing to try is to restart the Machine Creation service if there is no obvious cause of the problem (e.g. database connection problem).
