IBMStorageSubsystem.FailureID_0301_Monitor (UnitMonitor)

Monitor Description for (301)

Knowledge Base article:

Controller Firmware Not Supported

What Caused the Problem?

The controller listed in the Details area is running a different version of controller firmware than the previous controller.  As a result, the controller is currently in locked-down mode.

This problem results when:

The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.

Caution: Electrostatic discharge can damage sensitive components. Always use proper antistatic protection when handling components. Touching components without using a proper ground may damage the equipment.

Important Notes

Recovery Steps

1

Refer to the Details area to determine which version of controller firmware is expected by the storage subsystem.

If...

Then...

The details area lists a specific expected controller firmware version

Go to step 2.

The details area lists "Not Available" for the expected controller firmware version

You need to determine which version of firmware was on the previous (native) controller. Use one of the following options to accomplish this:

  • If you have saved a version of the Storage Subsystem Profile, you can open the saved file and refer to the information under the Controllers heading to determine the previous controller's firmware version.  Note that the Storage Subsystem Profile is also saved in the .zip file any time you use the Gather Support Data option.

  • If the previous (native) controller is still operational, you can re-insert the previous controller and refer to the Controllers Tab of the Storage Subsystem Profile to determine the previous controller's firmware version.

  • If neither of the previous options are possible, you must contact your technical support representative for further assistance.

Once you have determined which version of controller firmware you need to download, go to step 2.

2

If...

Then...

You already have the appropriate controller firmware version file (the version used on the previous controller)

Go to step 3.

You DO NOT have the appropriate controller firmware version file

Contact your sales representative to obtain this file, and then go to step 3.

3

From the

Support

tab, click the

Download Firmware

link, and then click the

Download Controller Firmware

link.

4

Complete the appropriate steps in the Download Controller Firmware dialog to update the controller firmware to the appropriate version.

When the transfer is complete and the new firmware has successfully been updated, the controller will reboot automatically.

5

Wait for the storage management software to update (all of the tasks will reappear under the tabs), and then go to step 6.

6

Click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area. If the failure appears again, contact your technical support representative.
