O Sistema de Nomes de Domínio (DNS) melhora a tolerância a falhas e balanceamento de carga através da manutenção da redundância de servidores. Para todas as zonas, um servidor DNS pode assumir o papel de um servidor mestre primário, autoritativo para uma zona, ou de um servidor secundário, que obtém os dados de zona junto do servidor mestre primário da zona ou de outro servidor secundário. Este processo é conhecido como transferência de zona.

Confirmar a versão do serviço
Verifique o servidor DNS de origem e confirme se está a executar o serviço Servidor DNS, pelo menos no Windows 2000 Server ou noutras implementações do servidor DNS compatíveis com a transferência de zona incremental (IXFR).
