Microsoft.Windows.DfsReplication.JournalLossMonitor (UnitMonitor)

This monitor checks whether the DFS Replication service on the monitored computer detected a deletion or loss of the NTFS change journal for a volume hosting replicated folders.

Summary

The DFS Replication service may register this event if it detects that the NTFS change journal for the specified volume is currently unavailable or has been deleted.

Event: 2204

Anti-events: 2206, 2208, 2002, 2008, 2010, 1004, 1104

Causes

The DFS Replication service uses the NTFS change journal to keep track of changes occurring to the contents of the replicated folder. This helps it replicate changed files to the replication partners in that replication group.

This error may occur if the NTFS change journal has been deleted from the specified volume on the affected computer.

Resolutions

No user action is required.

The DFS Replication service will automatically initiate a journal loss recovery process. If the service encounters further errors during the recovery process, it will retry the recovery process after a fixed period of time.

It is not recommended to delete the change journal on a volume hosting one or more DFS Replicated folders.

If you encounter further errors related to change journal loss or related to the change journal loss recovery process, check for availability of adequate free space on that volume.
