This object monitors the accessibility of the staging folder for a replicated folder and creates a Warning alert if the folder is inaccessible. If the staging folder is inaccessible, DFS Replication cannot replicate the affected replicated folder.
This object monitors the accessibility of the staging folder for a replicated folder and creates a Warning alert of the folder is inaccessible. It does so by checking for the presence of DFS Replication Event 4212. If the staging folder is inaccessible, DFS Replication cannot replicate the affected replicated folder.
An unhealthy state of this monitor indicates that DFS Replication could not access the staging folder for one or more replicated folders. A staging folder could be inaccessible for the following reasons:
The staging folder path doesn’t exist or is not on a local volume formatted with the NTFS file system.
DFS Replication doesn’t have Full Control permissions to the staging folder.
An antivirus application or other application is interfering with DFS Replication file access operations.
Recreate the staging folder
To resolve this issue, use the following procedure:
1. Refer to the alert description text for the monitor in the Operations console to determine the path of the staging folder. Or use the following command to obtain the staging folder path where [ReplicationGroup]is the name of the replication group hosting the replicated folder: dfsradmin membership list /rgname:"[ReplicationGroup]"
2. Use Windows Explorer or a command prompt to confirm that the staging folder exists on a local volume formatted with NTFS.
Note: By default the staging folder is located inside the hidden \dfsrprivate folder, which is a subdirectory of the replicated folder. To view it, navigate to it by name.
3. If you cannot access the staging folder, create a new staging folder in the expected location, or change the staging folder location. To change the staging folder location, see Edit the Quota Size of the Staging Folder and Conflict and Deleted Folder (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=186944).
Correct the replicated folder permissions
If the DFS Replication service doesn’t have Full Control permissions to the replicated folder and staging folder, replication will fail. To resolve this issue, grant the local System account Full Controlpermissions to the replicated folder and subfolders as well as the staging folder (if located outside of the replicated folder).
Verification
This monitor automatically resets to a healthy state after it successfully initializes the replication folder.
