WSUS catalog synchronization depends on connectivity to the upstream server or Microsoft Update.
The last catalog synchronization with the upstream WSUS server failed.
Possible resolutions include:
Intermittent network connectivity loss to the upstream server. Review event logs for possible sources of the service disruption.
Check the update server and proxy settings in the WSUS administration console..
Start WSUS 3.0: Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Microsoft Windows Server Update Services v3.0.
Select Options.
Click Update Source and Proxy Server.
Review update source settings and make changes as needed.
Review proxy server settings and make changes as needed.
Click Synchronization Results.
In the Action pane, click Synchronize Now.
The last catalog synchronization happened some time ago or was never performed.
This is a reminder to synchronize the server on a regular basis if the synchronization schedule is set to manual.
Start WSUS 3.0: Click Start, click Administrative Tools, then click Microsoft Windows Server Update Services v3.0.
Click Synchronization Results
In the Action pane, click Synchronize Now.
Look for the corresponding error event
Open a command window.
Type cd <WSUSInstallDir>\Tools
Type wsusutil checkhealth
Type eventvwr
Review the Application log for the most recent events from source Windows Server Update Services and event id 10020.
