The SMS Reporting Point service has stopped. SMS requires this service to display reports. This condition may not repair itself and must be resolved before SMS reports can be viewed.
This will typically occur when:
The reporting point computer is shut down or is restarted.
SMS is being upgraded with SMS hotfixes or SMS service packs. SMS automatically stops and restarts all necessary services during the upgrade.
The SMS Backup service runs. SMS automatically stops and restarts all necessary services when the backup task runs.
SQL Server is being upgraded with SQL Server hotfixes or SQL Server service packs or a later version of SQL Server.
The Reporting Point service is manually shut down.
Verify that the Reporting Point service was stopped due to routine or scheduled maintenance. If so, no action is required. If not, the reporting point needs to be investigated.
Confirm that the reporting point computer is online. If the Reporting Point service is not already started, start it.
For more information about SMS Reporting Points, see Chapter 8, "Designing Your SMS Sites and Hierarchy" in the Scenarios and Procedures for Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003: Planning and Deployment at the Systems Management Server 2003 Product Documentation Web page.
For more information about troubleshooting reporting, see the Troubleshooting Flowcharts at the Systems Management Server 2003 Product Documentation Web page.
For more assistance, a list of additional support options is available in the support section of the SMS Web site at Support for Systems Management Server.
