SMS_2003_service_running__SMS_SQL_MONITOR_9_Rule.AdvancedAlertCriteriaMonitor (UnitMonitor)

Summary

The SMS SQL Monitor service has stopped. SMS requires this service to record and access necessary data. This condition will not repair itself and must be resolved before SMS can resume some of its core functions.

Causes

This will typically occur when:

The computer is shut down or is restarted.
SMS is being upgraded with SMS hotfixes or SMS service packs.
The site server is backed up.
The SMS SQL Monitor service is manually shut down.

Resolutions

This can be corrected by:

Waiting for SMS Site Component Manager service to restart the service. This may take up to one hour.
Restarting the SMS Site Component Manager service. This will force Site Component Manager to immediately check the status of all components.
Performing a site reset to force Site Component Manager to reinstall all components.
Restarting the computer.
