Description

The management module does not recognize the vital product data for the fan module.

Causes

The advanced management module cannot read the VPD (Vital Product Data) of the fan.

Implications

The advanced management module will make multiple attempts to read the VPD. After multiple times, the fan might begin to operate at full speed. If the advanced management module is able to read the VPD, a recovery message is generated for the event log. If this cycle continues to happen, there can be a quality problem.

Resolutions

Perform these actions:

  1. Wait approximately 15 minutes to see if a recovery message is generated.
  2. If the problem persists (or a recovery message is not generated), replace the fan module.
