Knowledge Article: ID X0010001 " The processor is about to fail

Description

This Critical Alert is generated when the availability state of a system processor changes. The device identified as a processor in slot X (where X is the affected processor slot) is predicting an imminent failure.

Causes

A variety of conditions can cause a CPU to fail, such as voltage, temperature, or an internal error.

Implications

Address CPU Alerts as soon as possible.

Resolutions

1.    If the severity is Critical, replace the specified processor that is failing or has failed. Otherwise, monitor the microprocessor for further problems; if the problems persist, replace the microprocessor.

2.    Gather as much information about the failure as possible.
"    Consult the Hardware Maintenance manual and Troubleshooting Guide.
"    Retain the full recorded logs (such as BIOS logs). Information in the logs such as the instance ID (or Device ID), when available, can help you to identify the particular component that experienced the problem.

3.    If the problems persist, shut down the system and take these actions:
       "    Reseat the processor.
"    Reseat the processor VRM, if present.
"    Check that the processor heat sink is correctly seated.
       "    Replace the processor.

NOTE: Do not attempt to service the system yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
