Knowledge Article: ID X0020001 " The DIMM is about to fail

Description

The Memory Alert occurs when the availability of a dual inline memory module (DIMM) in a system changes.

Causes

A variety of conditions can cause a DIMM to fail, such as voltage, temperature, or an internal failure.

Implications

Address Memory alerts as soon as possible. If a DIMM is failing or has failed, the currently available memory in a system changes due to a modification during a system restart.

Resolutions

1.    Gather as much information about the failure as possible.
"    Consult the Hardware Maintenance manual and Troubleshooting Guide.
"    Retain the full recorded logs (such as BIOS logs). Information in the logs such as the instance ID (or Device ID), when available, can help you to identify the particular component that experienced the problem.

2.    If the problems persist, shut down the system and take these actions:
       "    Reseat the DIMM.
"    Check that the DIMM lever is securely latched.
       "    Replace the DIMM.

NOTE: Do not attempt to service the system yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
