Knowledge Article: ID X0050001 - ServeRAID-MR event

Description

Various alerts and events could trigger this notification, depending on your ServeRAID-MR version and configuration, and the version of IBM Director Agent. The RAID events occur when a change is detected in the state of a Level-1 or Level-2 managed system that includes a RAID configuration, or when a service processor or management module detects that the state of a RAID controller or hard disk drive changed.

Causes

The RAID events are generated by the controllers with RAID capabilities, such as IBM ServeRAID-MR10M SAS/SATA Controller, IBM SystemX MegaRAID SAS 8808E RAID Controller, and other devices. These events occur when storage hardware devices detect a change in their operational status, configuration, or other environmental changes.

Implications

The following RAID notifications are generated by the MegaRAID. Any of these notifications might trigger the RAID event:

RAID Drive Created ; RAID Drive Deleted ; RAID Drive Modified ; RAID Volume Created ; RAID Volume Deleted ; RAID Volume Modified ; RAID Storage Pool Created ; RAID Storage Pool Deleted ; RAID Storage Pool Modified ; RAID Port Controller Created ; RAID Port Controller Deleted ; RAID Port Controller Modified .

Resolutions

  1. If a RAID event occured, follow the suggested actions:
    • For information about the ServeRAID-MR events, see the Hardware Maintenance manual and Troubleshooting Guide.
    • When available, use the RAID Utility to configure, monitor, and maintain RAID adapters. You can view information that is related to controllers, arrays, logical drives, hot-spare drives, and hard disk drives. Also, you can view configuration settings and events and locate defunct hard disk drives.
    • Check for the latest applicable RAID device drivers anf firmware that support RAID hardware.
    • Contact your authorized operators and/or system administrators.
    • Retain the full recorded logs.

  2. If a hardware RAID error occurred complete the following steps:
    • Verify that the controller, cables, and hard disk drives are installed correctly.
    • Verify that there is power to the hard disk drives.
    • Retry the command.
    • If the command still fails, restart the server and retry the command.
    • If the problem persists, complete the following steps:
      1. Restore to factory-default settings.
      2. Recreate the configuration.
    • If possible, shut down the system and place a service call.

  3. Monitor the system for future events, keep track of all alerts, events, and logs.
