Knowledge Article: ID X0060000 " The health state of the SMART drive (IDE/SCSI) has changed.

Description

This alert is generated when the state of an IDE or SCSI hard disk drive that complies with the self-monitoring, analysis, and reporting technology (SMART) changes with respect to its availability. SMART technology contains advanced diagnostics that monitor the drive components to provide an early warning prediction of possible failure of the system drives.

Causes

A variety of causes could influence a drive to fail, such as voltages, temperature, internal error, and other causes.

Implications

Address this alert at the earliest opportunity.

Resolutions

  1. If the severity is Critical, replace the specified drive that is failing or that has already failed. Otherwise, monitor the drive for further problems; if the problems persist, replace the drive.

  2. Gather as much information about the failure as possible
    • Consult the Hardware Maintenance manual and Troubleshooting Guide
    • Retain the full recorded logs (such as BIOS logs). Information in the logs such as the instance ID (or Device ID), when available, allows you to identify the particular component that experienced the problem.

NOTE: Back up all your drive data. Do not attempt to service the system yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
