Knowledge Article: ID X0060002 " The disk drive faulted

Description

A disk drive event occurs when a service processor or management module, such as RSA detects that the availability state of a system disk drive has changed.

Causes

A variety of causes could influence a disk drive to fail, such as voltages, temperature, backplane, internal error, or other causes.

Implications

The disk drive alert should be addressed at the earliest opportunity.

Resolutions

  1. If the severity is Critical, identify the disk drive, make sure that has failed and replace the disk drive. Otherwise, monitor the disk drive for further problems; if the problem persist, replace the disk drive.

  2. Gather as much information about the failure as possible
    • Consult the Hardware Maintenance manual and Troubleshooting Guide
    • Retain the full recorded logs (such as BIOS logs). Information in the logs such as the Device ID, when available, allows you to identify the particular component that experienced the problem.

NOTE: Do not attempt to service the system yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
