Description
Once any version of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 is installed in the system, IPMI tools can no longer access the on-board BMC. The IPMI device driver for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 is not loaded, and the MSIPMI is not shown in the device manager under system devices, this is due to system BIOS failed to expose the BMC through ACPI for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 to install the MSIPMI driver.
Causes
After installing Microsoft Windows Server 2008, all IPMI dependent tasks/applications will not function such as IBM Electronic Service Agent (ESA) ESA 4.0, ASU, DSA (IPMI portion only), Director Agent, xFlash and UXSPi, all the UIMs that depend on Director Agent (such as IBM Hardware Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager 2007). The list of affected tasks/applications is not exhaustive.
