This monitor checks the alignment of Virtual Hard Disks. For optimal performance, the file system of the VHD and the storage array should be in proper alignment.

Failure to make sure that all VHDs are aligned can result in mild to severe performance degradation depending upon the configuration and overall environment.

Causes

This VHD has one or more of the following problems:

The file system of this VHD has partitions with starting offsets that do not align with the start of the storage block.
The VHD is not fixed-size. For this storage, it is strongly recommended that you use fixed-size VHDs to achieve the best performance for your Microsoft virtual environment.
