Repository - Full

The causes and resolutions refer to the Dell Modular Disk Storage Manager recovery guru. Launch Dell Modular Disk Storage Manager to diagnose and fix the recovery failure as follows:

Causes

All of the available repository capacity has been used for a snapshot group or consistency group member virtual disk. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.

Identify the affected object in the Details area.

If...

Then...

The object is a snapshot group

Go to step 2.

The object is a consistency group member virtual disk

Go to step 3.

If...

Then...

You want to increase the snapshot group's repository capacity

Perform the following steps:

a

On the Storage and Copy Services tab in the Array Management Window, select the "Snapshot Groups" node in the navigation tree that is under the associated base virtual disk.

b

In the right-hand pane, select the affected snapshot group.

c

Select the Copy Services > Snapshot Group > Overall Repository > Increase Capacity... menu option.

d

You can either add one or more existing repository virtual disks, or create and add a new repository virtual disk.

e

Click the Increase Capacity button.

f

Go to step 4.

You want to manually delete the oldest snapshot images from the group

Perform the following steps:

a

On the Storage and Copy Services tab in the Array Management Window, select the "Snapshot Images" node in the navigation tree that is under the associated base virtual disk.

b

In the right-hand pane, highlight the snapshot image with the oldest timestamp that is associated with the affected snapshot group.

Note: Sorting the table by "Associated Snapshot Group" will group together all of the snapshot images associated with affected snapshot group.

Select the Copy Services > Snapshot Image > Delete... menu option.

d

Follow the instructions in the dialog, and type "yes" to confirm the operation.

e

If necessary, repeat steps a - d to delete multiple snapshot images.

f

Go to step 4.

If...

Then...

You want to increase the consistency group member virtual disk's repository capacity

Perform the following steps:

a

On the Storage and Copy Services tab in the Array Management Window, select the "Member Virtual Disks" node in the navigation tree that is under the associated consistency group.

b

In the right-hand pane, select the affected consistency group member virtual disk.

c

Select the Copy Services > Consistency Group Member Virtual Disk > Overall Repository > Increase Capacity... menu option.

d

You can either add one or more existing repository virtual disks, or create and add a new repository virtual disk.

e

Click the Increase Capacity button.

Go to step 4.

You want to manually delete the oldest snapshot images from the consistency group member virtual disk

Perform the following steps:

a

On the Storage and Copy Services tab in the Array Management Window, select the "Snapshot Images" node in the navigation tree that is under the associated consistency group.

b

In the top table of the right-hand pane, highlight the consistency group snapshot image with the oldest timestamp.

c

In the bottom table of the right-hand pane, select the individual member snapshot image associated with the consistency group member virtual disk.

d

Select the Copy Services > Snapshot Image > Delete... menu option.

e

Follow the instructions in the dialog, and type "yes" to confirm the operation.

f

If necessary, repeat steps a - e to delete multiple snapshot images.

g

Go to step 4.

Click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area. If the failure appears again, contact your Technical Support Representative.
