Snapshot Group or CG Member Virtual Disk Failed

The causes and resolutions refer to the Dell Modular Disk Storage Manager recovery guru. Launch Dell Modular Disk Storage Manager to diagnose and fix the recovery failure as follows:

Causes

A snapshot group or consistency group (CG) member virtual disk has failed. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.

Identify the affected object in the Details area.

If...

Then...

The object is a snapshot group

Go to step 2.

The object is a consistency group member virtual disk

Go to step 3.

If...

Then...

You want to revive the snapshot group

Perform the following steps:

a

On the Storage and Copy Services tab in the Array Management Window, select the "Snapshot Groups" node in the navigation tree that is under the associated base virtual disk.

b

In the right-hand pane, select the affected snapshot group.

c

Select the Copy Services > Snapshot Group > Advanced > Revive... menu option.

d

Follow the instructions in the dialog, and then click the Revive button.

e

Go to step 4.

You want to delete the snapshot group

Perform the following steps:

a

On the Storage and Copy Services tab in the Array Management Window, select the "Snapshot Groups" node in the navigation tree that is under the associated base virtual disk.

b

Highlight the snapshot group in the Array Management Window.

c

Select the Copy Services > Snapshot Group > Delete... menu option.

d

Follow the instructions in the dialog, and then click the Delete button.

e

Go to step 4.

Then...

You want to revive the consistency group member virtual disk

Perform the following steps:

a

On the Storage and Copy Services tab in the Array Management Window, select the "Member Virtual Disks" node in the navigation tree that is under the associated consistency group.

b

In the right-hand pane, select the affected consistency group member virtual disk.

c

Select the Copy Services > Consistency Group Member Virtual Disk > Advanced > Revive... menu option.

d

Follow the instructions in the dialog, and then click the Revive button.

e

Go to step 4.

You want to remove the consistency group member virtual disk

Perform the following steps:

a

On the Storage and Copy Services tab in the Array Management Window, select the "Member Virtual Disks" node in the navigation tree that is under the associated consistency group.

b

In the right-hand pane, select the affected consistency group member virtual disk.

c

Select the Copy Services > Consistency Group Member Virtual Disk > Remove from Consistency Group... menu option.

d

Follow the instructions in the dialog, and type "yes" to confirm the operation.

e

Go to step 4.

Click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area. If the failure appears again, contact your Technical Support Representative.
