Summary

Disk Pool Capacity - Critical Threshold Exceeded

The causes and resolutions refer to the Dell Modular Disk Storage Manager recovery guru. Launch Dell Modular Disk Storage Manager to diagnose and fix the recovery failure as follows:

Causes

A disk pool's used capacity has exceeded the critical threshold level. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.

Important Notes

Resolutions

1

If...

Then...

You want to replace the failed physical disks (recommended)

Select the failed physical disk procedure from the Recovery Guru Summary area and use the associated recovery steps to fix the failed physical disk. Repeat the recovery steps for all of the physical disks you want to replace.

You want to expand the usable disk pool capacity by adding physical disks

Perform the following steps:

a

On the Storage and Copy Services tab in the Array Management Window, highlight the affected disk pool.

b

Select the Storage > Disk Pool > Add Physical Disks (Capacity)... menu option.

c

Select one or more unassigned physical disks to add to the disk pool.

Note: It is important to have enough reserved capacity to reconstruct data when physical disk failures occur. It is recommended to add as many physical disks as needed to reach the Required reserve physical disk count (identified in the Details area).

d

Click the Add button.

e

Go to step 2.

You want to delete unneeded virtual disks to free up capacity

Perform the following steps:

a

On the Storage and Copy Services tab in the Array Management Window, highlight the virtual disk that you want to delete.

b

Select the Storage > Virtual Disk > Delete... menu option.

Note: You can select and delete multiple virtual disks using the "Delete Virtual Disks" dialog.

c

Click the Delete button.

d

You want to increase or disable the disk pool's critical warning notification threshold

Perform the following steps:

a

On the Storage and Copy Services tab in the Array Management Window, highlight the affected disk pool.

b

Select the Storage > Disk Pool > Change > Settings... menu option.

c

Adjust the critical warning notification threshold to a percentage that is greater than the Used repository capacity percentage (identified in the Details area), or unselect the checkbox to disable the setting.

d

Click the OK button.

e

Go to step 2.

2

Click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area. If the failure appears again, contact your Technical Support Representative.
