Total Processor \% Interrupt Time (Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5)

Microsoft.Linux.RHEL.5.OperatingSystem.TotalPercentInterruptTime.Collection (Rule)

Collects the performance counter Processor\\% Interrupt Time

Knowledge Base article:

Summary

This rule collects performance data for the Processor\% Interrupt Time (_Total) performance counter. The collected values are accessible in performance views and reports.

This metric exposes the time that all processors spent receiving and servicing hardware interrupts. This value is an indirect indicator of the activity of devices that generate interrupts, such as the system clock, the mouse, storage controllers, data communication lines, network interface cards and other peripheral devices. These devices normally interrupt the processor when they have completed a task or require attention. Normal thread execution is suspended during interrupts.

The value returned by the agent is the rolling average of the 5 most recent values queried at 1 minute intervals.
