MSSQL 2016: A default full-text catalog does not exist in the database or user does not have permission to perform this action

Microsoft.SQLServer.2016.A_default_full_text_catalog_does_not_exist_in_the_database_or_user_does_not_have_permission_to_perform_this_action_5_Rule (Rule)

The full-text catalog does not exist, or the user does not have the appropriate permission to create a full-text index in the catalog.

Knowledge Base article:

Summary

The full-text catalog does not exist, or the user does not have the appropriate permission to create a full-text index in the catalog.

Causes

There is no requirement to have a default full-text catalog. However, if no default catalog has been defined, you must specify a catalog name when you execute a CREATE FULLTEXT INDEX statement.

You must have CREATE FULLTEXT CATALOG permission on the database to create a full-text catalog, or REFERENCES permission to a catalog to create a full-text index in the catalog.

Resolutions

For more information, see the following topics in SQL Server 2016 Books Online:

"CREATE FULLTEXT INDEX (Transact-SQL)"

"CREATE FULLTEXT CATALOG (Transact-SQL)"

"GRANT Full-text Catalog Permissions (Transact-SQL)"
