DFS-R: Non-Authoritative Database Rebuild State

Microsoft.Windows.FileServer.DFSR.DatabaseRecoveryMonitor (UnitMonitor)

This object monitors the DFS Replication database and determines if the database needs to be rebuilt. If the database must be rebuilt, replication pauses and a Warning alert is created.

Summary

This object monitors the DFS Replication database and determines if the database needs to be rebuilt. It does so by looking for the presence of DFS Replication Event 4110. If the database must be rebuilt, replication pauses and a Warning alert is created.

Causes

An unhealthy state of this monitor indicates that DFS Replication must rebuild its database. This can occur for a number of reasons, including if an administrator performs a non-authoritative restore of the DFS Replication database or data in the replicated folder.

Resolutions

Wait for database recreation to complete

No action is required.

DFS Replication automatically rebuilds the database and then begins initial synchronization for all replicated folders hosted on that volume. Therefore, it may take a long time for recovery to complete, depending on the amount of data and number of files in replicated folders on the specified volume.

If you see this error occurring frequently, run the chkdsk command on the affected volume to check whether disk errors may be causing this issue, and examine the System event log for disk-related errors.

Verification

After this issue is resolved, DFS Replication logs DFS Replication Event 2106 or 4108 and then resets the monitor to a healthy state.
