Microsoft.Windows.FileServer.DFSR.InconsistentVolumeConfigMonitor (UnitMonitor)

This object monitors the volumes hosting replicated folders and creates a Warning alert if it detects volumes with conflicting configuration hosting a replicated folder.

Summary

This object monitors the volumes hosting replicated folders and creates a Warning alert if it detects volumes with conflicting configuration hosting a replicated folder. It does so by looking for the presence of DFS Replication Event 6602.

Causes

An unhealthy state of this monitor indicates that DFS Replication detected volumes with conflicting configurations and discarded (ignored) one of the conflicting volume configurations. This can occur when there are two volumes with identical serial numbers, which can happen when breaking a disk mirror or using disk imaging software.

Resolutions

Recreate the Replicated Folder

Determine the last configuration change made that affected the specified volume. Check whether the same replicated folder had been configured to be on a different volume or whether the location of the replicated folder had recently been modified.

If conflicts exist, use DFS Management or the Dfsradmin command to remove the server’s membership in the replication group and recreate it.

Note: To recreate a replicated folder you must be a member of the Domain Admins group in the domain in which the replication group is configured, the creator of the replication group, or have been delegated permissions.

Change the Volume Serial Number

If there are multiple volumes with the same serial number, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (http://support.microsoft.com).
