DFS-R: SYSVOL Replicated Folder Path State

Microsoft.Windows.FileServer.DFSR.InvalidSysvolRootPathOnSharedDisk (UnitMonitor)

This object monitors the replicated folder path for the SYSVOL folder, and creates a Warning alert if it detects that a SYSVOL replicated folder is located on a shared (cluster) volume. Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) is not supported on failover clusters, and the SYSVOL folder must be located in local storage.

Summary

This object monitors the replicated folder path for the SYSVOL folder, and creates a Warning alert if it detects that a SYSVOL replicated folder is located on a shared (cluster) volume. It does so by looking for the presence of DFS Replication Event 9108.

Causes

An unhealthy state of this monitor indicates that an administrator created a SYSVOL replicated folder in shared storage. Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) is not supported on failover clusters, and the SYSVOL folder must be located in local storage.

Resolutions

Remove the domain controller from the domain

To resolve this issue, remove the domain controller from the domain and then install the non-clustered domain controller back to the domain, choosing a location for the SYSVOL folder that is not in shared storage. To do so, see the following topics:

Note: To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Domain Admins group in the domain.

Verification

This monitor automatically resets to a healthy state when it detects that the replicated folder is no longer located in shared storage.
