Summary

The Computer Browser service maintains a list of computer names that are on the network and supplies this list to clients. The service assists in the name resolution process and is used for non-Active Directory enabled networks and backward compatibility with client computers that are running Windows NT 4.0. If this service is stopped clients in non-Active Directory enabled networks and Windows NT 4.0 clients may not be able to reach computers by name.
