What Caused the Problem?

The automatic negotiation for the data rate on the specified port has failed. The port is down and will not transfer any data. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.

Check the Summary area of the Recovery Guru to see if a failed SFP is being reported.

If...

Then...

There is not a failed SFP being reported or the failed SFP is on a different port than what is being reported in the Details area

Go to step 2.

There is a failed SFP being reported and it is on the same port as being reported in the Details area

Fix the problem using its associated recovery guru procedure. Then, go to step 5.

Unplug and reconnect the cable at both ends of the port specified in the Details area and then go to step 3.

Check the hub or switch to determine if it has failed or is not properly transmitting its data rate (consult your hub or switch documentation for details).

Then...

The hub or switch is OK

Go to step 4.

There is a problem with the hub or switch

Fix the problem. Then, go to step 5.

Check the host adapter to determine if it has failed or is not properly transmitting its data rate (consult your host adapter documentation for details).

If...

Then...

The host adapter is OK

Go to step 5.

There is a problem with the host adapter

Fix the problem. Then, go to step 5.

Click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area. If the failure appears again, contact your Technical Support Representative.
