Monitor REC_DRIVE_INCOMPATIBLE_DOWNREV_DACSTORE (205)

NetAppESeries.FailureID_0205_Monitor (UnitMonitor)

A drive has a
DACStore that is unrecognizable because it was written by an earlier
version of the firmware.

Knowledge Base article:

Incompatible Drive Due to Older Configuration Database

What Caused the Problem?

A drive is incompatible for use in this storage array because it contains an older configuration database than what is supported by the storage array. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.

Caution: Electronic discharge can damage sensitive components. Always use proper antistatic protection when handling components. Touching components without using a proper ground may damage the equipment.

Important Notes

Recovery Steps

1

If...

Then...

You want to use this drive in this storage array

AND

You want to import the volume group data as well

You will need the ability to upgrade the firmware on the original storage array. If you want to proceed, go to step 2.

You want to use this drive in this storage array

AND

You want to erase all volume group data that is on the drive

Note

: This option will erase all the volume group configuration data on the drive.

Perform the following steps:

a

On the Hardware tab in the Array Management Window, highlight the affected drive.

b

Select the

Hardware > Drive > Advanced > Initialize

menu option.

c

Carefully read and follow all instructions in the "Confirm Initialization" dialog.

d

When the initialization operation completes, go to step 3.

You do NOT want to use this drive in this storage array

Perform the following steps:

a

Remove the drive. If you need to keep or backup the data from the drive, you must reinsert the drive into the original storage array.

b

If you are replacing the drive with a new drive, wait 30 seconds, then insert a new drive. Its fault indicator light may be lit for a short time (one minute or less).

c

Go to step 3.

2

Upgrade the configuration database on the drives by completing the following steps:

a

Remove every drive that is reporting this problem.

b

Reinsert the drives back into the original storage array.

c

When the drives are ready, upgrade the firmware on the entire storage array to the appropriate firmware.

Note:

  • Upgrading the firmware on the controllers will upgrade the configuration database on the drives.

  • Refer to your user documentation to assist you with the firmware upgrade procedure.

  • You may need to contact your sales representative to obtain the appropriate release of firmware.

  • Depending on the version of the firmware on the original storage array, it may be too old enough to complete a direct upgrade to the appropriate firmware.

d

Once the firmware upgrade completes, make sure that all volume groups contained on the drives are optimal (there are no failed drives).

e

Remove the drives from the source (original) storage array and connect them to this (the destination) storage array.

f

Once this storage array recognizes the new drives, you will need to import the volume groups that reside on the drives. Refer to the online help to assist you with completing a volume group import operation on each one of the volume groups residing on the drives.
