ConfigMgr 2007 Status: WSUS Configuration Manager failed to get update categories, classifications and locales from a WSUS Server

SMSv4_Status__WSUS_Configuration_Manager_failed_to_get_update_categories_classifications_and_locales_from_a_WSUS_Server_1_Rule (Rule)

Knowledge Base article:

Summary

WSUS_Configuration_Manager remotely configures and retrieves information from the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) server on the Configuration Manager site server by using the WSUS API. It retrieves the categories and classifications from the WSUS server.

Causes

This condition could occur because:

The compatible WSUS 3.0 server is not installed on the software update point.

The compatible WSUS 3.0 Administration console is not installed on the Configuration Manager site server.

The Internet Information Services (IIS) port information that is configured by the Administrator through the software update point component configuration is different than the one configured during WSUS server installation.

Network connectivity issues exist between the Configuration Manager site server and the WSUS server.
