Veeam VMware: vSphere Host Hardware Temperature Sensor Status

Veeam.Virt.Extensions.VMware.VMHOST.VMSENSORCONTAINER.TEMPERATURE.Monitor.StatusChanged (UnitMonitor)

Knowledge Base article:

Summary

One or more Hardware Sensors of Temperature class have entered alert status. The list of sensors in yellow/red status is given in the alert description.

Causes

The thresholds for onboard hardware sensors are built-in to the sensor either by the manufacturer (embedded in firmware or hard-coded), or by VMware via the ESX(i) build.

A yellow status for a sensor usually indicates loss of redundancy, imminent failure, impeded functionality or performance, or other non-critical issue.

A Red status for a sensor usually indicates component failure, loss of functionality, serious impact to functionality or performance, or other critical issue.

Resolutions

Review the exact sensor(s) and their status in the Alert Description. All sensors in either Red or Yellow status for Temperature class will be listed. Review manufacturers guidelines for this specific hardware platform and act accordingly. It may be pro-active to migrate virtual machines to an alternative vSphere host before a further possible catastrophic hardware failure.

The Veeam MP collects hardware data via agenetless vendor-agnostic method using CIM standards as defined by the Distributed Management Task Force (see www.dmtf.org).
